Complete comprehensive patient evaluations to diagnose and treat health and behavioral conditions, including surgeries, lameness exams, diagnostic imaging, and pre-purchase examinations. Provide preventative care to maintain the health of performance horse patients. Advise performance horse owners about general care, housing, feeding, behavior, and breeding. Advise owners on patient care and treatment. Prescribe and administer medication. Treat sport related injuries such as wounds and fractures. F/T with evening, weekend and/or emergency shifts for potentially over 40 hours/week. Salary $165,000/year.
Requires Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree from a U.S. or AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) accredited institution and 3 years of experience as a Veterinarian working on performance (race) horses and working with thoroughbred public auctions/sales. Foreign equivalent to U.S. DVM /combination of education and experience is acceptable with U.S. equivalency evaluation. Must possess a valid State License to practice Veterinary Medicine in Florida and valid DEA controlled substance registration certificate. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and operate standard veterinary medical equipment (e.g., X-ray machines). Must be familiar with Board Rules and American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) standards of practice. Requires availability for evening, weekend, and emergency shifts for potentially over 40 hours/week and ability to perform veterinary services on an emergency/as-needed basis off-site.
